Rick Warren of Saddleback Church

"Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first …" 2nd Thessalonians 2:3a

Concerning Rick Warren of Saddleback Church.

A recent glaring example of Rick Warren publicly twisting scripture and encouraging other pastors to follow his lead was on parade at the Desiring God Conference. It's a very long review but I'd recommend you listen to it at FightingFortheFaith.com (October 4)

If you don't want to hear all 2 Hours 35 minutes, just listen to the last 35 minutes. There's plenty of examples of Rick Warren twisting the Bible, plus at the very end, Rick Warren refers to having members signing covenants at his church too, which is something the Bible tells us not to do. It's amazing that pastors across the country, and yes here in Evansville Indiana, follow Warren and Hybels and others like them like Groupies.

Quotes from the www.FightingFortheFaith.com review and approximate time it occurs on the audio.

2:00 (Hour:Minute) Rick Warren: "...This is a big one that I think we need to talk about as we close...If you're gonna teach people how to fight the battle for the mind, you must teach them how to Let God stretch their imagination.."

2:01 Chris Rosebrough: "What!... we have to teach people how to let God stretch their imaginations? Where does it teach this stuff in the Bible? I mean seriously...What is he talking about? Where in the scripture does it teach us we have to let God stretch our imaginations? I can't think of a single passage that says that. Oh I'm sure we'll get something completely twisted and out of context.. just hang on a second here it comes. "

2:01 - 2:03 Rick Warren: "....every church that has ever been started somebody, either a group of people or a church planter imagined that church. nothing happens until someone starts dreaming.
we as pastors need to help our people become great... godly.... dreamers."

2:03:05 Rick Warren: "Proverbs 29 verse 8 says where there is no vision the people perish"

Chris Rosebrough: It's Proverbs 29 18 actually but even I make those kinds of mistakes, 29:18
"Where there is no prophetic vision the people cast off restraint but blessed is he who keeps the law" Proverbs 29:18 doesn't teach us about dreaming things into existence, he just completely mishandled God's Word here.
yet Rick Warren can't help it. I mean this... he just is not capable of sound Biblical exegesis anymore
all he does is twist God's Word. And the entire listening of this experience has been nothing but a complete mangeling and twisting of God's Word. Into all these principles that YOU need to DO. Where's the cross again...?

....
2:04 Chris Rosebrough: "Here we are twisting God's Word about imagination."

2:05:40 Chris Rosebrough: "....This is an abomination."

2:05 Chris Rosebrough: The folks at Desiring God must rebuke the false teaching here. "I cannot believe they allowed this to go unchallenged"

2:06 Rick Warren: Where there is no vision the people perish.
What we need today are great dreamers...

2:06:30 Rick Warren: "...what's your dream for the next 10 years?.... "

2:07 Rick Warren: "We're getting ready to start in 2 weeks what we're calling Decade of Destiny at Saddleback and we're actually writing out dreams for the character changes we want to see in our lives..."

2:07:27 Chris Rosebrough: "And once again he's smoking what he's pushing...'we're doing the Decade of Destiny.'.. have you done the Decade of Destiny? We'll you're not as holy as they are if you're not doing the Decade of Destiny figured out..."

2:08:40 Chris Rosebrough: "... yeah. We need some Luther's that will vehemently and polemically. write against these false doctrines by the Purpose Driven Pope Rick Warren"

2:08:56 Rick Warren: "I'm not talking about changing doctrine"

2:09:00 Chris Rosebrough: "Oh yeah? Well why did you twist God's Word in order to make this point of yours? Why is it that all your Purpose Driven hirelings and their churches, they don't teach sound Biblical doctrine? We review their sermons on this program daily! Oh yeah, you assure us that you're not about changing doctrine but doctrine's are the very things that are being changed right in front of our eyes or as we are listening to it! We're hearing God's doctrine's being changed as we listen to this sermon or to this lecture! Because you keep twisting God's Word! You don't engage in sound Biblical hermeneutics, sir!
You completely treat the Bible like it's a wax nose or a piece of silly putty that can be basically made into whatever figure that you want it to!"

2:10:16 Rick Warren: "We can only do the impossible if we see the invisible."

2:10:19 Chris Rosebrough: Isn't that false doctrine? where is that in the Bible?

2:12:55 At this point, in the audio, Rick Warren twists Hebrews 11:6

2:12:55 Rick Warren: "...a goal is a statement of faith and without faith it's impossible to please God"

2:13 Chris Rosebrough: "this is damnable ... notice how he threw that in there? ... this is a complete, supreme, twisting of God's Word"

2:15-2:16 Chris Rosebrough reads Hebrew 11 and asks "... is the kind of faith being talked about in Hebrews 11:6 the kind of faith that says you have to have a big grand almost impossible vision for your life?... Not at all, what Rick Warren has the audacity to do was to blatantly twist God's Word and lie about it at the Desiring God Conference.."

2:17 Chris Rosebrough: "This is False Doctrine"(what Rick Warren is saying)

2:21:48 Rick Warren: "As we close in this conference on T.H.I.N.K. I want us to make a covenant together..."

2:22:10 Chris Rosebrough: "Remember what I told you in my notes? Everything he does always leads up to some kind of commitment. Here it is! Here's the commitment! He wants you to enter into a covenant with him. NO WAY! I will not enter into a covenant with you Rick Warren! You keep twisting God's Word in this entire teaching is spurious! Not only is it completely soaked in Palagionism, the cross is practically non-existent in what little you preached of it isn't about the forgiveness of sins. Christ doesn't factor into this at all and this whole dream thing that you've concocted, it's not even in the text. You've completely mangled Hebrews 11:6 and Proverbs 29:18 to come up with this weird bizarre doctrine. You're the one who said earlier in this little sermon thing that you're doing that if it's new it's untrue. Yeah, all of this is new. I should reject it as untrue!"

2:23:01 Rick Warren: "Our church is built on 4 covenants. Membership covenant, maturity covenant, ministry covenant, mission covenant, most people couldn't join Saddleback because they wouldn't be willing to keep the covenants. And most people know that we do church discipline if you don't keep the covenants. But I want us to keep a covenant together..."

2 Timothy 4
I CHARGE thee therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom. Preach the word....But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry. (kjv)

Quote from the THE DAY OF RECKONING by Paul Proctor:

You see, today's “secular Christians” decided somewhere back there that it was time to bring the culture into the church in the interest of evangelism and make the gospel more relevant to reprobates, thereby compelling Christians into a compromised co-existence with the enemies of Christ by giving them a place and a voice once reserved exclusively for the redeemed.

Now it has become the driving desire of countless congregations around this country to expand and refashion their simple structures into grand palaces of bread and circus where believers and unbelievers can be lured into facilitated fellowships of compromise and consensus by way of their “felt needs” to enjoy not only the steady beat of the street but also a steady diet of passion-filled, purpose-driven psycho-heresy and all of the cultural relevance a secular Christian could covet; praising, worshiping and serving one another in the name of Christ while tolerating anything and everything at the expense of His Word so as to justify and gratify the appetites and senses of all; creating a chaotic peace; a “unity in diversity” by the mixing of truth with lie and good with evil; something the bible clearly condemns.
